Highlight Video Showcases Recent Training
BOSTON – After spending five and a half weeks training at high altitude in Mammoth Lakes, California, the B.A.A. High Performance Team is back in Boston and ready for the upcoming racing season. Guided by B.A.A. High Performance Coach Terrence Mahon, seven of the nine members of the B.A.A. High Performance team spent time in California.

“This was our best training camp at altitude of the three times we’ve gone to Mammoth Lakes,” said Mahon. “The athletes fully adapted to the altitude, and each had gains all across the board. From their hard runs, easy days, tempo runs and intervals, they set personal bests in volume and intensity, and also recovered well. We have a really focused group and they’ve worked hard.”
Among those training in Mammoth Lakes included three-time Olympian Jen Rhines, Sarah Pagano, Elaina Balouris, Emily Lipari, Margo Malone, Emma Bates, and Daniel Winn. The team has already seen positive results from the training block at high altitude, including a win at the Big Sur Half Marathon and a runner-up finish at the Manchester Road Race on Thanksgiving by Pagano, and a third place at the Dana Point Turkey Trot 10K for Rhines.
“Altitude makes a good environment for the team, and helps enhance the team culture and drive to be better,” Mahon said. “The benefits will come in the following weeks and months, all the way through the cross country and indoor track seasons into February.”
The objective of the B.A.A.’s High Performance group of athletes is to support American runners on their way towards making international teams, with the goal of competing at an Olympic and World Championships level. Since the team’s inception, they have been supported by adidas.
Among the upcoming races for the B.A.A. High Performance Team are the USA National Club Cross Country Championships (Tallahassee, FL on December 10), the New York Midnight Run on New Year’s Eve (New York, NY on December 31), the USA National Cross Country Championships (Bend, OR on February 4, a selection race for the IAAF Cross Country Championships), and various meets during the indoor track season.
