Monday, September 29 is the deadline for comments on MassDOT’s project to renovate the I-90 Interchange in Allston, and you can make a big difference by sending just one email.
BACKGROUND
The I-90 Interchange Project was undertaken as a $260 million renovation project for the Turnpike Interchange in Allston. However, without mitigation, the highway renovation would cause significant damage to the parklands along the Charles River.
MassDOT recently agreed to move Soldier’s Field Road away from the river as part of the scope of work. There is also an opportunity to create acres of parkland, which we’ve been calling the “Allston Esplanade”. The Allston Esplanade can also include improved river paths, a pedestrian/bicycle river crossing between Allston and Cambridge, and increased transit options.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Let MassDOT know that you would like enhanced river paths, expanded parkland, and improved transit no later than Monday, September 29th. The email is already drafted, and you just need to send it — you can read the email text or download the Word document to add a personal touch before emailing it.
Thank you for helping us in our efforts to increase the Charles River parklands!
Sincerely,
The CRC Advocacy Team
