The BU Season Opener served as one of the local kickoff meets to this year’s indoor track season. If you were there late in the meet, you got treated to quite the fascinating early season race. The women’s 5k highlighted the meet as four of the top female collegiate distance runners in the nation traveled to Beantown to toe the line. The field was lead by Wisconsin’s Sarah Disanza, who was hot off of her runner-up finish at the D1 National XC Championships two weeks ago, along with Providence standout Emily Sisson (7th at NCAA XC in 2013), BC stud Liv Westphal, and University of Portland’s Tansey Lystad. Disanza and Sisson controlled most of the race, hitting slight negative splits the whole way. Disanza eventually pulled away with the victory with a spectacular early season time of 15:20.57, dragging Sisson along for the ride in 15:21.84. Westphal would finish 10 seconds later in a massive PR time of 15:31.62 with Lystad crossing the line in 15:51.12, also a pretty big race for her. The men competing in the race after these ladies undoubtedly had some high expectations to meet!
