Undeterred by the cancellation of the Martha’s Vineyard 20 mile road race, approximately four dozen southeastern New England runners took to the Cape Cod Canal path on Valentine’s Day to get in their long run and continue preparations for the upcoming marathon season. Bouyed by the rallying cry “no weenies”, the MV-20 slogan, these athletes were able to brave the fierce canal winds on this mid-teen degree morning and accomplish the day’s goal. “There are very few safe places in the area to do a long run. This location allows each of us to get in our work in and enjoy some camaraderie” noted Wareham’s Roger Spring, who is prepping for the Boston Marathon. Despite the cancellation, several participants were able to garner close to two dozen prizes for this non-competitive effort and a raffle was held after the completion of the run.
