As we start ramping up our coverage of the 2015 Vermont City Marathon we’ve turned our attention to the men’s and women’s elite invited fields. While we’re in the process of putting together a lot of great stuff to present to you in the coming days and weeks, we felt that this more entertaining stuff was worth sharing as well.
It seems that Matt Pelletier and Eric Macknight have been trading shots across social media, and the true winners of this battle are everyone who’s happened to be following it. Some good stuff from the guys. Here’s the condensed version to get you caught up:
“I’m definitely down to talk smack about the chump they call Matty P.” @Emacknight‘s @RunVermont #VCM preview will be fun. @mpelletier217

Will Matty P respond? “It’s the only way @Emacknight will be relevant at VCM.” Yeah, @mpelletier217‘s #VCM preview will be fun too. — Level Renner (@levelrenner) April 30, 2015
@Emacknight @levelrenner with a bugbite still walked you down at Hartford that year.You’ll be lucky to run with a healthy MattyP for 3 miles
— Matt Pelletier (@mpelletier217) April 30, 2015
@Emacknight @levelrenner @RunHMF you got a poster? @RunHMF just lets anyone get a poster now, huh? — Matt Pelletier (@mpelletier217) April 30, 2015
@mpelletier217 @levelrenner @RunHMF Not quite. I put in a good word so you didn’t feel left out. #VCM #ForrestGump #MattyChump

@Emacknight @mpelletier217 @RunHMF how many stamps did it take to mail that thing?
— Level Renner (@levelrenner) April 30, 2015
@Emacknight @levelrenner I was surprised to hear you were still running. I thought you’d have given up by now #hasbeenwhoneverwas
— Matt Pelletier (@mpelletier217) April 30, 2015
@mpelletier217 @levelrenner I recall no words exchanged and you dropping to the ground. You hit your head pretty hard. #tattootocoverthescar

We should probably note that it’s all in good fun. Otherwise it’d be pretty wrong of us to encourage it. We can’t have elite on elite violence at any races, even though it would be an epic brawl on the scale of the news team fight in Anchorman (the first one, not the second). We’ll have interviews coming from Macknight and Matty P, among others, in the next couple of days. Both have their sites set on some impressive times so it’ll be fun to watch!
