Olympic hopeful Liz Costello wins Monson Memorial Classic half-marathon, women’s division sets new record

One of the town’s most popular yearly events, a charity road race held each fall that took place over the weekend, was filled with drama and excitement.

A new course record was established in the women’s division by aspiring Olympian Liz Costello. Sunday’s race was the 20-th annual running of Monson Memorial Classic.

The 2015 female champion broke the previous record set by Claudia Carmargo in 2006.

Costello ran the hilly, winding, 13.1 mile course in 1 hour, 14 minutes, and 50 seconds to set the new standard in the charity event on Nov. 8.
