Ignoring a stiff wind that often provided a sand storm near the coast, more than 4,000 put on their hard hats, laced up their running shoes and attacked the city streets of Newport Sunday morning for the fourth annual Amica Marathon and UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon.

It was a big day for the BAA at the Jack Kerouac 5k in Lowell this past Sunday, as the unicorn was proudly displayed on the singlets of both the men’s and women’s champs. They even went 1-2 in the men’s race en route to winning the open team title.

In recent years the GBTC Invite has seen a diminishing number of participants in the club-sponsored race. However with this year’s event 230 runners came out to compete and a number of volunteers and spectators showed up to give their support.

I was just hoping that after coming back from some time off that I would be able to get the legs turning over after cresting the final hill for the final kick. As soon as I heard about the European summer track circuit, I heard about the British Milers’ Club (BMC). They consistently put on high-quality meets that attract top runners and produce fast times. As long as I was going to be living in England, I knew I had to find one of these meets.
